Klafki’s Bildung- and Didaktik theory includes epistemological aspects and practice-oriented concepts for use in lesson planning, where the Didaktik analysis is a key element (Deng, 2015a). Klafki’s view of knowledge is explained by the term categorical Bildung (Klafki, 2000a, 2001a, b).

What can educators working to develop critical thinking (CT) in their classrooms gain from engaging with the German/Scandinavian tradition of Bildung-centred Didaktik?
